The Icy Hawt #15

So I took a long break from EVE, mainly to sort out the end of the semester. I had papers that needed writing, exams that needed grading and a whole lot of bureaucratic mess that needed sorting. Add in that a couple friends started playing another MMO and got me kinda hooked on it… at least until SONY decided to accidentally their databases. Which lead me back to the spacelanes of New Eden.

- LateNite™ Watch -

The war-torn systems of Kourmonen, Huola and Auga once again bore witness to the power and prowess of LateNite™ Fleet the brave Matari warriors have once again taken the upper-hand in the ongoing conflict in the low-security border systems of Heimatar and the Bleak Lands. In a series of confrontations over the past week, the Crusader horde witnessed first hand what this elite band of freedom fighters is capable of… Among the fights that were witnessed, these stand out as some of more notable large-scale engagements:

1.- After about one hour of the typical ship-up/ship down game, followed by some patented fatmanpaul-style warping to eleventy different gates, the Amarr BS Fleet sets up on the Auga gate in Amamake. LateNite’s™ BS-Logistics gang jumps into them and proceeded to kill them in the face. Pel Ukken of Ice Fire Warriors managed to foul up his return to combat by straying away from the logistics ships and getting killed rather quickly in the fight. However, the Minmatar were not without Mexican for very long as Sneaky Noob quickly jumped in and made sure everything was bueno.

2.- After another long period of forming up, the Amarr BS fleet once again formed up, this time on the Auga-Kourm regional gate. As expected, LateNite™ was faced with the options of a) not fighting or b) jumping into the waiting fleet. Only this time, Ka Pow-Pow Inc duo Manos Kdo and Muskells landed in the middle of the Amarr fleet wielding dual Fleet-Issue Tempests seconds before LateNite FC’s gave the order to jump in and engage. Chaos and death ensue as Muskells’ Fleet Tempest tanked the Amarr fleet like a boss as LateNite dispensed doom on the Golden Horde. The fight quickly turned into a rout as the heavily tanked Abaddon-class Battleships of the Imperial Crusade disengaged and either warped out or jump into Auga and escape. The outcome was more or less 50-50, despite the smaller and lighter Matari fleet that was fielded. However, since a) Kourmonen is Amarr sovereignty b) LateNite jumped into the Amarr fleet and c) LateNite held the field; a cultural victory was declared. On a personal note, Icy Hawt correspondant Pel Ukken would like to thank all the Matari logistics pilots for keeping his Typhoon alive, despite the obscene amounts of damage that were directed towards him.

3.- With a re-hash of the previous evening’s engagement looming, LateNite™ integrated members of Autocannons Anonymous and Valkyr Industries into their fleet and formed up in Auga. With the Amarr Militia fleet sitting at an off-grid tactical on the other side of the Stargate, the Matari fleet held zero on the stargate. Out of the blue a highly-skilled scout let the Fleet Commanders know that he “had eyes” on the Crusader scum at their tactical, and when asked if he could provide a warp-in, the scout confirmed he could. Once again LateNite™ jumped into the breach, only this time they warped in directly on top of the Amarr BS-Logistics gang. While the poorly-fit and poorly-piloted Guardians of the Golden Horde managed to burn off out of range from most of the Minmatar Militia battleships and were able to keep reps on field for most of the fight, they were prevented from escaping by the brave frigate pilots of AUTOZ and VYKR. When the dust settled, the rout was complete: At the loss of two Typhoons and a couple frigates, LateNite™ killed two of the pesky Abaddons, a number of other battleships and battlecruisers and all three Guardians.

4.- The third fight on the Kourm-Auga gate was yet another beat-down for the Golden Horde. This time the Crusaders were fielding dual Logistic Dominii and the Amarrian Battleships formed up on the Auga stargate in Kourmonen. LateNite, this time in Armor Battlecruisers and with a single Hospital Domi piloted by Gallente gimp Bald Beaver, jumped into the waiting Amarrians and opened fire. With the heavy DPS of the battlecruisers and the neuting power of SigmaPi’s Curse overpowering the short-range reps of the Dominii and once again proceeded to melt them in the face with death. Sharra Savente made an appearance in his Paladin-class Marauder and Sneaky Noob, newly settled in Ka Pow Pow Inc, proceeded to obliterate Eran Mintor’s alt.

5.- Yet another fight in Kourmonen, this time on the Huola gate. Details are lacking, as Icy Hawt correspondants were not present at the time of the engagement. However, reports from some of the fleet members have suggested that LateNite™, in a rare show of chivalry, dispensed with both battleships and logistics for this engagement, fielding instead a very heavy DPS battlecruiser fleet. While the proximity of friendly stations allowed the Crusaders to quickly reship and rejoin the fight, this only meant more targets for LateNite to destroy, over and over and over again. As the evening progressed, LateNite™ once again engaged the Amarr in the system of Lamaa and then again in Kourmonen. Both fights ended with the Amarrians either dying or running away… and Curtiss dying too. Twice.

6.- Finally forming up in substantial numbers, the Amarrians start to aggresivly patrol the border systems of Kourmonen, Huola and Kamela. They started out well, killing a couple small Matari fleets, including a rather poorly fit Dominix. As LateNite began to form up the Amarrians decided to make a stand in the system of Auga. Shipping down to T1 Crusiers they entered LateNite’s™ home system and entered a plex, possibly in an attempt to prevent LateNite™ from fielding Logistics or Captials. However, this tactic backfired badly, since most of the Matari fleet re-shipped into faction cruisers and proceeded to warp into the plex and tear apart the Amarrian fleet, with a single Arbitrator managing to escape the massacre.

In honor of these fights, Sharra Savente of IFW made some very interesting battle commentary pictures, which can be found here and here.

- Vordak and Tron -

There are several advantages to being broke. One of them is you can buy cheap ships and fit them out with some salvaged gear and go out looking for fights to die in. Add in some cheesy music and you’ve got yourself an evening of dying in a fire and killing people. Our very own Vordak Kallager, recently victim to the age old contracts scam, bought some Atron frigate hulls and (hopefully) fitted them with some cheap yet effective T2 modules and undocked into the space, the theme song from the movie Tron blaring in his pod. He proceeded to kill a reasonably not-terribly fit Rifter, albiet flown by a capsuleer that was 3 days into his pod-pilot career. He then killed a wierdly fit Merlin, this time flown by a character that was just over a year old. As of publication, the Atron remained alive (unfortunately).

- HTH and the Battle of Vard -

So… has anyone seen House Theololus (HTH) recently? The last info Icy Hawt intelligence operatives have on the glorious capsuleers of HTH was a series intercepted communiques between members of Matari Factional Warfare corporation TRIAD and members of HTH (including their CEO). Allegations of cooperation and poor sportmanship abounded and the whole thread ended with promises of “We will kick you out of Vard” were tossed around. Portions of the message exchange can be seen in the previous publication, along with some commentary by our esteemed editor.

Fast forward a month and after some engagements on the stations on Vard HTH has gone, for all intents and purposes, inactive. Their leading pilots are MIA and their pet monkey, FlyingHotPocket has been reduced to flying and dying in noobships. They are absent from both Huola and Vard, their former staging systems.

We ask, HTH… where are thou?

- Bahamut Wins a Dreadnaught -

IFW’s CEO and Glorious BattleLeader Bahamut420 recently won a contest hosted by Ushra’Khan “Heathen of the Year”. A counterpoint to PIE’s “Amarrian of the Year” award, U’K stressed that the prize was to be awarded to the the individual that embodied “hatred and contempt for the Amarr Empire”. The contest’s judge, capsuleer Kazzzi, posted asking for nominee’s to be vocal on their achievments, including “… old war stories, tell us of heroic deeds or even provide us with stirring war songs…”.

Needless to say LateNite™ was quick to discover this contest and swarmed to the forums to nominate Baha, and also showed their artistic talents as well. Notable entries were Sneaky Noob’s rendition of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’Muskells’ quickly followed suit with another stirring renditonShalee Lianne of the Amarr also endorsed the BahamutGaldornae’s short but succinct poemSneaky Noob’s excellent haiku, and Kuan Yida’s lyrical telling of the Bahamut among others.

It was beyond doubt that the Bahamut would win the award, and win he did.

- Real EVE News -

Changes to nullsec sec status calculations and complex spawn rates. Botters and carebears moan and whine.

Changes to missions and skills. Bye-bye mission hubs…

IT Alliance is no more… and DRF/Raiden(dot)/WN continues it’s slow march across the eastern border of the Northern Coalition. Map details here.

Intelligence Leak: TRIAD -vs- HTH

House Theodoulos (HTH) has moved its membership to the system of Vard, home of old-time Liberation Force veterans T.R.I.A.D. Both these corps have a heavy role-playing background and are home to some the more unique and special members of their respective militias.

Icy Hawt™ intelligence operatives have recently unearthed some very interesting communiques between one of the more special snowflakes of TRIAD directed at the CEO of HTH. Some of the more interesting tidbits follow:

I went to bed thinking that I never called anyone a homosexual in anger before; and felt ashamed. I am sorry.

You sir, are a rude and bad person and should be ashamed.

Onesimus Theodoulos, when you approached me about joinign HTH, I was flattered. Since I had just rejoined T.R.I.A.D. and did not want to bounce around (I even said no when I had an opportunity to rejoin ROSS), I told you and your fellow corporation members (when they would ask) that the answer (at least for the time being was no).

Attempted recruitment by The House of estabilished TLF Warriors?! Say it ain’t so!!

When I found out your coproation had me marked blue, I asked for that to be removed so there would be no accidents. And I realized that when I was primared in battle by any member of your coropration, that is a part of FW.

Interesting, HTH is focusing on specific Matari targets, instead of all-out war against the Minmatar terrorists. Going so far as to even setting up positive standings with Matari capsuleers. Very interesting… I wonder what the other FW corps think about this.

When Lord Morgo stated having ships in Vard, I tried to tell myself, no big deal; this was not an outright betrayal of friendship or trust. But then when the station games started happening with one of T.R.I.A.D. members being repeated podded (he left our corporation in part, due to the multiple ganks by HTH), I realized that HTH is no better (or worse) than any other war target.

Station camping is a legitimate and valid tactic in space combat that has existed for years. In lowsec it is VERY simple to escape a camped station, unless you’re dumb. It’s what I like to call Darwinian Evolution.

What makes matters more insulting is several of HTH members complaining about IFW station gaming (and you should know by now TRIAD and IFW are not related), and then HTH members do that to TRIAD members?

DNA Comparison has confirmed that TRIAD and IFW are indeed, not related. In other news, Amarrian FW corps are allowed to shoot Minmatar FW corps anywhere.

Then when one of our newer, combat, members gets attacked in a belt in Vard by Flyinghotpocket, it cannot be 1v1, but Lord Morgo has to come in the Dramiel (almost all know it to be the king of frigs) and have a 2 v1 with Flyinghotpocket stating in local it was not a station game (well, gank is gank).

Flyinghotpocket is known for his under-handed tactics and for being a very rude individual. Poor form, FHP, poor form.

Based on these actions, I will never join the Amarr, never consider HTH, and as previously stated will do everything I can do within game mechanics as an outright enemy of HTH until HTH is out of Vard.

UPDATES - Issue 14

- Corrections -

Missy Lorelai is NOT the CEO of Autocannons Anonymous. Some other dude is. Vordak made a big deal about this, even sending me an EVEmail. The board of directors of The Icy Hawt™ has agreed to a) pretend to care and b) post a correction. Done and done.

Dame Death is no longer a member of Invicta. For reasons unknown he left and is now a member of RAZOR Alliance, albiet in what back in my CEI days we liked to call :lolMINC: (thanks to lukka for the up-to-date info).

Cicevo, former Amarrian RPer and now a member of Ice Fire Warriors, posted a rather well-written counter-argument on the EVE Uni forums in regard to Mara’s poorly written and deceitful list of lies about IFW. As a result, he was banned.
